Problems with overheating and check engine light on 2011 Ford Figo petrol engine: Possible malfunction of the auxiliary coolant pump

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hi guys, I'm having problems with my 2011 Ford Figo petrol engine. The car is overheating and the check engine light is on. Could this be due to a malfunction of the auxiliary coolant pump? Do you have any experience with this and can you give me advice on how to fix the problem? I am particularly interested in how you solved the problem in your workshop. Thank you!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2019 Ford Fiesta, a different model of the same make. I'm certainly not a car specialist, but I have a bit of experience and do some repairs myself. At my garage they found that the "cable connection was faulty" which cost 170 euros to fix. It wasn't the auxiliary coolant pump, so there could be another reason for your problem. Could you maybe give more details about your car? Most likely that would be helpful to help you further. See you then!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. For info, my car has already run 63917 km and the last service was a few months ago. Maybe that could have something to do with the problem? Hope other members of the community can also share their experiences and solutions. Thanks again!

Hi there, you're welcome! Your mileage is actually still pretty good, so that shouldn't cause the problem per se. The last service wasn't too long ago either, so I think it could be more to do with the specific parts of your car. Maybe it is a cooling problem after all, although not necessarily with the auxiliary coolant pump. It could be a faulty temperature sensor, a faulty thermostat or even a problem with the water pump. I would suggest you get it checked at a garage to make sure. Like I said, I'm no expert, but these are the usual suspects for overheating problems. Keep us posted and good luck with it!
