Problems with opening the Toyota 4Runner 2005 soft top and warning light in the speedometer

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Convertible top cannot be opened or closed

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2005 Toyota 4Runner. The top won't open or close and a warning light comes on in my speedometer. I think it might be a faulty hall sensor signal from the top. Have any of you ever had symptoms like this and can give me advice on troubleshooting? I am particularly interested in your experiences of how you solved the problems in the workshop. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Toyota Land Cruiser, I have little car knowledge but I took the car to my garage and we discovered that the wiring or connectors were faulty. The repair cost me 95.0 euros. Have you ever checked the wiring and connectors in your car? Maybe it's the same problem. If you could give me more information about your car, for example mileage or fault codes, I might be able to help you more accurately. I hope you find a solution to your problem soon.

Thanks for your quick reply. My 4Runner already has a proud 203738 KM on the clock, and I had my last inspection about 4 months ago, when everything was in order. No error codes were reported. Your tip about the cables and plug connections sounds like a real possibility, I will definitely check that and then take it to the workshop if necessary. Thanks again for your good advice. I hope to have the problem solved soon!

No problem, I'd be happy to help. Could actually be something with the lines, especially with the high mileage of your 4Runner. You could also look for any cracks in the wiring, things like that are sometimes overlooked during inspection. If you have an OBD2 scanner, you could also use it to look for fault codes, even if no warning light is illuminated. Of course, remote diagnosis is always a bit difficult, but I would definitely take the car to the garage, especially if you're still flirting with the Hall sensor. The guys there know what they're doing and can give you an accurate diagnosis. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the problem won't be too expensive!

Thank you very much for your tips. You're right, only the garage can give an exact diagnosis. But your recommendations are very valuable and give me a clue as to what exactly I can address at the workshop. I will definitely have the cables and connections checked and look for cracks. I will also use the OBD2 scanner to look for fault codes. I hope it's nothing serious and the repair won't be too expensive. I really appreciate your help. Thanks again!
