Problems with Opel Omega 2003: Check-engine light, unstable engine and suspected defective camshaft sensor

Longer cold start time

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Hello everyone, I currently have a problem with my Opel Omega 2003 gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, the engine suddenly stalls, has longer cold start times, and there is also a loss of power and a rough engine. Sometimes it won't start at all. I suspect that it could be the camshaft sensor. Have any of you ever had similar problems with your car and can perhaps help me? What did the garage do in your case? I would be delighted to hear your experiences and tips! Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Opel Vectra 2005. I have some experience with cars, but I'm not a professional. My garage ended up replacing the master gear on the camshaft because it was defective. The repair cost me a total of 695.0 euros. I hope that helps you. Can you perhaps give me more details about your car, such as the exact model name, mileage and last service? Then I might be able to help you even better.

Hi, thanks for your reply. My Omega is a 2.2 DTI, has now done 183863 km and the last service was at about 180k km. Of course, that doesn't sound so great with the encoder wheel. I hope it won't be that expensive for me. Did the repair completely solve the problem for you?

Hey, thanks for the additional information. So after the sensor wheel was replaced, the problems with my Vectra were gone and it has been running perfectly ever since. Sure, it was a bit expensive, but at least it fixed the problem. Given the mileage of your Omega, it could well be the camshaft sensor or the encoder wheel. But without a precise diagnosis, you can only speculate. The best thing to do is to have it checked by a workshop. It is also possible that you have other faults that are causing the starting problem. Good luck with that!

Hello, thank you very much for your helpfulness and the informative information. I will look for a workshop that can take a look at the whole thing. I'm reassured to know that you didn't have such serious problems after all. Hopefully this will also apply to my car, as I need it every day. So thanks again for the advice, I really appreciate it!
