Problems with Opel GrandlandX 2018: Black smoke, engine problems and loss of performance - looking for advice and solutions

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Shaking while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Stalling while idling

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2018 Opel GrandlandX, gasoline engine. It has some pretty strange symptoms: black smoke when accelerating, persistent check engine light, the engine stalls on its own, drives weak and rough, jerks when accelerating, starts poorly or not at all, stutters at idle and shakes while idling. I thought it might be due to a broken idle control, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me any valuable tips on how you fixed it at the garage? I look forward to hearing your stories and advice. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Opel Crossland X. I'm not really a car expert, but I do have some experience with cars. I took my car straight to the garage. In the end, it turned out that the cable/plug on the idle control valve was defective. The repair cost me 155.0 euros, after which my Opel ran like clockwork again. I could help you better if I knew more about your car. Have you seen any lights on your dashboard or received any error codes?

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My GrandlandX gasoline engine from 2018 now has almost exactly 140683 km on it. There were no abnormalities at the last service. As I said, the check engine light is on, but unfortunately I can't tell you any specific error codes. Sounds a lot like what you described. I'll have the cable/plug on the idle control valve checked. Glad I'm not alone with this. Cheers!

Hi, no problem, I'm happy to help! Yes, from the symptoms you've described, it sounds very similar to my problem with the Opel Crossland X. However, with such complex car problems, it's always safer to go to the garage - if only because of the check engine light. They could also read out your car via OBD2 and find the exact fault code that occurs when the check engine light comes on. My recommendation is to make an appointment with the garage as soon as you can. I hope this helps and that your GrandlandX will soon be back in perfect working order! All the best!

Person1: Hey, that could really be the solution! I'll call the garage tomorrow and make an appointment. Hopefully it's just the idle control valve or the cable/plug. It's reassuring to hear that your problem has been solved. I certainly hope that the repair costs remain similar for me. I will keep you informed. Thanks again for your support and kind words. Bye!
