Unsteady engine

Hey guys, I'm having a few problems with my Mercedes X Class (built in 2019, diesel). The check engine light is on, the engine stalls on its own, noticeable loss of power, rough engine running, sometimes it won't start and strange engine noises are worrying me. My assumption is that the position of the crankshaft to camshaft is faulty. Has anyone here had similar experiences and can give me some troubleshooting tips? I am particularly interested in how your workshop solved the problem. Thank you in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Mercedes V Class, year of manufacture 2017, diesel. I don't have that much experience with cars, but I'll do my best. My garage was great, they explained everything to me and gave me different options. The technician told me the problem was "timing chain elongated". It was quite expensive, 1320 euros to be exact. To help you better, could you please share more details about your car? How many kilometers has it run so far? When was the last oil change? Does the car have any modifications? It already sounds like it could be a serious problem, so I would recommend you waste no time and get it checked by a garage.

Thank you for your answer! My mileage is 59293 km. The oil was changed at the last inspection. Apart from a custom front bumper, no other modifications have been made. I think I will follow your advice and not risk it any further. Hopefully it won't be as expensive as yours!

Hey, thanks for the further information. With almost 60k kilometers, it is strange that such a problem occurs, but especially with homemade modifications, something unpredictable can always happen. I can understand your point about the costs. Repairs can be quite expensive - especially when it comes to the timing chain. My recommendation would be to get an estimate from at least two different workshops. This will give you a better overview and you may even be able to save a little. Good luck and I hope the problem is solved soon! Feel free to give us an update on how it went.

I really appreciate your advice, thank you! I hadn't even thought about the two estimates, that's a good idea. I'll look into it tomorrow and hope for the best of course. Will definitely keep you posted and thanks again for the help!

P001785-The position of the exhaust camshaft (cylinder bank 1) is implausible relative to the position of the crankshaft. There is a signal above the permissible limit value. What can I do ?

The error code P001785 suggests a problem with the camshaft position sensor. This sensor helps control the timing of your vehicle's fuel injection and ignition. A faulty sensor can cause a variety of issues, including the ones you're experiencing. First, check the wiring and connections to the camshaft position sensor for any visible damage or loose connections. If everything looks fine, you might need to replace the sensor. However, this is a complex task and if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, I'd recommend taking your vehicle to a professional mechanic. Please let us know how you get on, or if you have any other questions.
