Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hello folks! Do you have any experience of problems with a 2008 Toyota Highlander with a petrol engine? My car has recently been experiencing low battery power when starting the engine and the lights are too dark or even flicker. I suspect that this could be due to the auxiliary battery. Can you provide any useful information to determine the cause more precisely? I am particularly interested in your experience of how you have solved this problem in the workshop. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm not a car expert, but I had a similar problem with my 2006 Toyota RAV4. In my case, it was actually the battery that was faulty. To fix the problem, I took my car to a garage. They first measured the battery voltage and then replaced the battery. It cost me around 290 euros in total. Could you perhaps provide a little more information about your vehicle, e.g. what make and model of auxiliary battery you have? That would make it easier for me to give you advice.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! It's good to know that you had similar problems with your RAV4. I can't give you the details on the auxiliary battery at the moment, it's lying around somewhere in the papers. What else I can tell you: My Highlander has now done 157227 kilometers and the last service was about two months ago. Hope that helps you!

Hi, no problem! Given the mileage, it really sounds like the battery could be the culprit. With my experience as a Highlander owner, I would also advise having the battery checked. Flickering lights and poor engine starting are fairly typical symptoms. If the last service was only two months ago and the garage didn't report anything abnormal at the time, then I would suspect a weak or faulty battery. But don't worry, replacing it is usually not a big deal. Hopefully this will help you. All the best!

Great, thank you! Your advice helps me a lot. I'll probably take the car to the garage and have the battery checked. Hopefully it's nothing worse than a weak battery. Thanks again for your support! Bye!
