Problems with low battery and flickering lights in the 2018 BMW 2 Series

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Greetings, I have recently had a problem with my 2018 BMW 2 Series with gasoline engine. When the engine starts, the battery is low and the lights flicker or are dark. I suspect that the vehicle battery has discharged itself, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had similar problems and had it fixed by a garage? I am interested in your experiences and solutions. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2016 BMW 3 Series, but I'm not really a car expert, I only have some experience with my own car. At my garage, they found out that consumers had been retrofitted that were putting a strain on the battery. The repair cost me 240 euros. But to help you more accurately, could you please give me some more information about your vehicle, for example the specific model number and whether you have any additional equipment?

Hi, thanks for your feedback! My 2 series BMW is a 2018 model and doesn't really have any additional equipment. Has now run 27426km and the last service was at 20000km. Hope that helps.

Hello again! Thanks for the additional information. In your case, it does seem to me that there could be a self-discharge problem. With over 27,000 km and since the last service, it could be that your battery is simply losing power - it happens sometimes. In the worst case scenario, you should get a new battery, which will probably cost somewhere between 100 and 200 euros, depending on the model and battery quality. However, you could try fully charging the battery first and see if the problem still persists. If so, I would definitely visit a garage. Another tip: If you leave your car parked for a long time, it can be helpful to use a battery charger to ensure that the battery is not completely discharged. Hope that helps!

Hi, wow, I really appreciate your advice! It makes sense to me, could actually be a self-discharge of the battery. Originally I thought I should go straight to a garage, but I will definitely try to fully charge the battery first. And I'll get myself a battery charger in case I have to leave my car parked for a while again. Thanks for the tip! Hopefully I can solve the problem with that. The cost of a new battery sounds manageable if it really is necessary. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again for your help!
