Problems with headlight level control and warning light in speedometer on Renault Avantime 2002 - exchange of experience and suggestions for solutions wanted

Headlamp leveller malfunction

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2002 Renault Avantime with diesel engine. The symptoms are a malfunction of the headlight level control and a warning light in the speedometer. I have a suspicion that the functional restriction of the headlamp leveling system may be the problem. Do any of you have experience of a similar problem and can give me a few tips? I would be particularly interested to know how the problem was solved in the workshop and what your experiences were. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2000 Renault Laguna. I'm just a hobby mechanic with a bit of experience, but maybe my story will help you. When my car had the same problem, I took it to the garage. There it turned out that the headlight control unit was defective and had to be replaced. The whole thing cost me a whopping 630 euros. It would be helpful if you could give me more details about your vehicle. What mileage does it have? Does the problem always occur or only sporadically? This could help me to be able to help you better. Hopefully I was able to help a little!

Hi, thank you for your reply. My Avantime has run 25109 km and the problem occurs quite regularly. Your tip about the control unit could really help, as I have just had my last inspection and there were no abnormalities. I think I'll ask the garage if they can check the control unit. Really great that you shared your experience. Thanks again!

Hey, glad that my experience might have helped! At 25109km, your Avantimes is still pretty young. With my Laguna at the time, the problem also occurred rather sporadically, despite a higher mileage. If the problem occurs regularly, it would definitely be a good idea to have the control unit checked in the workshop. It could also be that it's just a loose connection or that a sensor is broken. In any case, it's something that should be checked in the workshop. Unfortunately, I can't tell you anything more specific about the costs because it's been a while since I had it done and I was at a small independent garage. But you can certainly expect an estimate. I hope everything goes well and you get the problem solved quickly. Let us know what comes of it. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your detailed advice! It's reassuring to know that other people have had similar problems and have been able to solve it with a simple visit to the garage. I will take your advice and make an appointment at the garage. An estimate would indeed be a good idea so that I can prepare myself for the possible costs. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Thanks again for your help!
