Problems with gearbox and ABS warning light in Skoda Superb 2018 - experience and solutions wanted

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Whining or grinding noises

ABS warning light

Dear community, I have a question. My Skoda Superb (petrol engine, model year 2018) has been acting up recently. The gears occasionally slip, the ABS warning light flashes and the engine makes strange noises. I have a hunch that it could be the transfer case, maybe oil wear? Have any of you ever experienced something similar and can tell me a bit about how you solved it in the workshop? I'm grateful for any tips!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Skoda Octavia. I'm not a car expert, but have a bit of experience in fixing problems on my own car. At the garage, they finally determined that the wear/defect of gears in the transfer case was causing the problem. To make the repair, they replaced the defective transfer case. The whole thing cost me about 330 euros. Could you perhaps provide a little more information about your car, such as the mileage, when the last inspection was, etc.? Then perhaps I could be a bit more specific about your problem.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. Yes of course, sorry, I forgot to mention that. My Skoda has now done 43560 km. The last inspection was only recently, so it's up to date. Do you know if this is a known problem with Skodas or was it just bad luck? I've heard that you should change the oil in the gearbox regularly, could that help?

Hey, no problem! Exactly, a regular oil change in the transmission can definitely help to extend its service life. The Skoda Superb should generally have its gearbox oil changed every 60,000 km or every two years. So it might be helpful if you check this. Regarding your question about whether this is a known problem with Skodas - I think it's quite rare, but it can definitely happen, especially if the car has been driven a few kilometers. Sometimes you're just unlucky. Importantly, I would definitely advise getting it checked by a professional before any further damage occurs. It will cost a bit, but probably less than a complete repair or replacement of the gearbox.

Hey, thanks again for your help. I'll keep the gearbox oil change in mind and check it out right away. I'll definitely make an appointment at the garage soon before it gets worse. It's a shame that it's not a known problem, I was hoping it might be a warranty issue. But you're right, the important thing now is to avoid further damage and have it checked by a specialist. Thanks again, your information was really helpful!
