Problems with Ford Transit 2007: Engine instability, difficulty starting and loss of power - suspected defective fuel pump

Longer cold start time

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2007 Ford Transit with gasoline engine. The thing just doesn't run like normal. Apart from check engine light and unstable engine, sometimes the engine stalls, cold starts take ages and there is loss of power. I also have jerking when accelerating and sometimes the car won't start at all. I have a suspicion that it could be the fuel pump. What do you think? Has anyone ever had the same problem and can give me tips on how to solve it? How did you get it fixed at the garage? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, your problem sounds familiar because I had something similar with my 2005 Ford Focus. I'm not much of a car expert, but I do have some experience with cars. In my case, the software values for the fuel pump were wrong and had to be reset in the workshop. I paid 45 euros for that. It could be that you have the same problem. But to be able to help more precisely, I need some more information about your car. How many kilometers does it already have on it? Has the fuel pump ever been changed? When was the last inspection? The more information I have, the better I might be able to help you. I hope this helps you a little. Good luck!

Hey, thanks a lot for your answer and help! Well, my Transit has already done 129104 km. The last service was at 125000 km, so recently. I have never changed the fuel pump. Your tip about the software values sounds interesting. Maybe I should have it checked at my garage. Glad to hear that it worked for you and wasn't that expensive. Greetings!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! As you say, if your Transit has never had a new fuel pump and already has so many kilometers on the clock, then it could well be because of that. It's definitely worth having the software values checked at the garage. In my case, it was the case that the signals from the fuel pump were not being passed on correctly to the engine control unit. The engine wasn't getting the right amount of fuel and that caused all this stuff like uneven engine running, misfiring and so on. Adjusting the software then corrected the whole thing. But be prepared that it might be more expensive if the pump is broken and needs to be replaced. So have everything checked out at the workshop. It's a hassle when the car goes wrong, but once it's running again, it's fine! Stay patient and don't get annoyed. Good luck, buddy!

Thank you for your further help and detailed explanation. What you say makes sense. I will definitely ask my garage and have the software values checked. And the fuel pump should also be checked, especially if it has never been changed. If it's broken and needs changing, then so be it. Safety comes first, and a working car is worth it. Your words are very reassuring. Thanks again for your time and effort. Have a good trip, buddy!
