Problems with Ford Ranger 2019: power loss, DPF regeneration and exhaust odor

DPF regeneration failure

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Loss of engine power

Hey guys, I need your help! My 2019 Ford Ranger with a gasoline engine is currently acting up a bit. The check engine light is on and it's losing power. There is also a problem with the DPF regeneration and a strong exhaust odor. I think it might be the exhaust gas temperature sensor. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me a tip? How did you have this solved in your workshop and what were your experiences?

Hi, absolutely not a mechanic here, but I had a similar problem with my 2017 Ford Mustang. Somehow I also had the feeling that it could be the exhaust temperature sensor. I had it checked at my regular garage and they said the exhaust system was leaking badly. The repair cost 265 euros, so not exactly a bargain, but at least it's running smoothly again now. Have you had the fault memory of your Ranger read out? Perhaps there is more information there that could help. If you send me the vehicle information, I might be able to say a bit more about it. Hopefully the problem isn't anything major and you can get away with it for less!

Hey, thanks for the tip! No, I haven't gotten around to having the fault memory read out yet. But I will definitely do that soon. I hadn't even considered that it could be the exhaust system. Another lesson learned today. By the way, my current mileage is 122010 km, the last service was just three months ago. But despite the service, the problem persists. Well, things will go wrong at the garage... Hopefully the price will be reasonable. Thanks again for your help!

Hi, I had exactly the same problem as you with my 2019 Ranger. It turned out that the exhaust gas temperature sensor was actually broken. I'm telling you, it was an odyssey until it was found... In my case, it was indicated by error messages in the error memory, so be sure to have it read out! It cost me just under 200 euros to change the sensor. So less than your Mustang, but not a penny. The strong exhaust odor and the failed DPF regeneration were gone afterwards and the engine performance was back to normal. Have it checked at your garage, it's worth a try. Keep us up to date! Good luck with it.

Hey, thanks for your info! That's a help, I thought it might be the exhaust temperature sensor, but didn't know exactly. Good sign that it got better for you after the sensor was changed, then there is hope for my Ranger. I will definitely talk to my garage about the sensor and tell them about your experience, maybe that will help. I'll keep you posted on how things progress. Thanks again!
