Problems with Ford Ranger 2011: Jerking, smoke development and engine problems - possible injection valve problems?

Unsteady engine

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Shaking while idling

Stalling while idling

Check engine light on

Car won't start

Longer cold start time

Jerking on acceleration

Hello folks! So, it may sound a bit strange, but my 2011 Ford Ranger, gasoline engine, is acting all weird. Between acceleration jerking and engine shuddering at idle, black smoke when accelerating and longer cold start times are among the symptoms. In addition, the check engine light is on, sometimes it won't start and sometimes it stalls while idling. I don't know what's going on, but I suspect it could be the fuel injector. Have any of you had similar problems and what has your garage done to fix the problem? I am really grateful for your tips and advice.

Hi. So, I had a similar situation with my 2009 Ford S-Max, I would describe myself as someone with a bit of experience when it comes to car problems. End of story, it was a problem with the plug/cable connection, that cost 155 euros to fix. Like you, the check engine light came on and the car struggled to start. My garage replaced the faulty plug and the car has been running great ever since. It would help if you could give a bit more information about your car, like the exact engine type or model. Maybe then I can give you a few more specific tips. Good luck with that!

Hi, thanks for your message. My car has 106549 km on it and the last service was about 3 months ago. It's really frustrating to have no idea what's going on with the car. I will take your advice and have the cable/connector checked. Maybe that is the reason for the jerking and black smoke. I hope that solves the problems. All the best!

Hey, thanks for the feedback. Yes, definitely have the cable connection checked, that could actually be the cause. Tell me, have you also noticed whether your fuel consumption is higher than normal? In addition to the injectors, this could also be a sign that your spark plugs could be faulty, which would explain the jerky driving and the black smoke. If none of this helps, it could also be the fuel filter or the fuel pump. These two parts can also cause the car to have trouble starting or stall at idle. I would definitely recommend having this checked by a workshop that is familiar with Ford. I hope this helps you a little. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get the problem solved soon! All the best!

Wow, that's really good to know. The fuel consumption is actually a little higher than normal, now that you mention it. I'll follow your tips and have everything checked. Spark plugs, fuel filter and fuel pump weren't even on my radar. Many thanks for your detailed advice and for keeping your fingers crossed! I'll keep you up to date. See you then, take care!
