Hey guys, I have a problem with my Ford Ranger (built in 2007, gasoline engine). It just doesn't run like normal. When accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the engine light is on, it stalls by itself, has a loss of power, runs uncomfortably, jerks when accelerating, consumes a lot of fuel, dies at idle and vibrates when stationary. I suspect the mass air flow sensor could be broken. Have you ever had similar problems and have any tips for me? How did you solve this in your workshop? I look forward to your experiences and advice. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2005 Ford F-150. My knowledge level of cars I would describe as low, but I have tried to do my own repairs when I think I can handle it. In this case, however, I went to my garage. After a little detective work, they found "damage in the wiring harness" that was causing the problem. I had the same scenario as you, my car was running rough, jerking and the check engine light was on. The repair cost me 95 euros, but afterwards the car ran perfectly again. Can you tell us more about the condition of your car? Mileage, when was the last oil change, any recent repairs? This information could help us to make a more accurate diagnosis and help you better.

Hello and thank you for your reply. My Ranger now has 89901 km on the clock and the last service was not too long ago. Maybe the wiring harness problem also has something to do with the way my car drives? Who knows? I think I'll go to my garage and have them look at it too. The tip about the wiring harness is great, I'll tell them about it. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! It's a really good idea for you to go to the garage, as your problem sounds quite complex. It could definitely be the wiring harness - but it could be a few other things as well. It could even be as simple as a clogged air filter, although that would probably bring on other symptoms as well. In your case, the mass air flow sensor could definitely be the problem if it's faulty. The mass air flow sensor actually measures how much air is entering the engine. If it's faulty, the engine may not be getting the right amount of air, which can lead to a failing engine and even black smoke. But just to be clear, I'm not a mechanic and these are just possibilities based on your description. It's good that you're getting it professionally checked. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing too complicated or expensive. Feel free to write again when you know more. Repairs can be quite tricky sometimes, but we'll get it sorted in the end! Good luck, dude!

Hey, thanks for crossing your fingers and your advice. I'm sure talking to the garage will help me. Maybe it will just be the air filter or mass air flow sensor, or it could be something more complicated like the wiring harness. Either way, I'll keep you posted. Maybe my story can help someone else who has similar problems. Until then, thanks again and take care buddy!
