Problems with Ford Maverick Diesel 2007: Engine light, reduced power and black smoke

Check engine light on

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Stalling while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Hey guys, I need your help. My 2007 Ford Maverick Diesel has strange symptoms. The check engine light is on, the engine power has dropped, the engine is running rough and when accelerating the car jerks and stutters, I have also noticed black smoke coming out of the exhaust. I think it could be a defect in the swirl flaps of the intake manifold. Has anyone had similar problems and could tell me what came out of the workshop visit? Thanks for the tips!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2009 Ford Kuga diesel. I have some experience with cars, but I'm no expert. The swirl flap of the intake manifold was also broken on my Kuga. I went to an independent garage and the guys there were able to solve the problem pretty quickly. But it cost me 865 euros. It could well be that you have the same problem as me. I would recommend you visit the garage as soon as possible. Could you perhaps provide some more information about your car, such as mileage, whether the car has been in a similar situation before, etc.? This could help us to better understand your problem and help you further.

Hi, thanks for the tip. My Maverick has rolled 115,481 km so far. Never had similar problems with the car before. Last inspection was only a year ago. Hopefully the damage isn't too expensive. I'll drop by the garage and let them know what it was. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! With the mileage, it does sound like a possible swirl flap problem, could confirm that from my own experience. But it's hard to say without professional diagnostics. With my Kuga, the problem only occurred at around 120,000 km. However, as you report that this is the first time you've had it and you've never had it before, it really would be best to go to a garage and have it checked. It helped me to get the fault fixed quickly to avoid more expensive consequential damage. Let me know what comes out. Keep your fingers crossed that it's nothing too serious. Have a safe journey!
