Shaking while idling

Hello everyone, I have a few problems with my Ford Freestyle (built in 2006, gasoline). Recently it has been emitting black smoke when accelerating, the indicator light is on, the engine power is decreasing, the engine is running rough, it jerks when accelerating, makes loud hissing noises when accelerating and sometimes cuts out when idling. It also shakes when idling. I suspect the problem is with the boost pressure sensor, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone experienced this before and can give me some tips? How was it solved in your workshop and what were your experiences with it? Many thanks in advance!

Hey, that doesn't sound good. I had a similar problem with my 2004 Ford Fusion. I'm not an expert on cars, but I like working on my own car so I have some experience. Then at my garage they found the waste gate valve was faulty and repaired it for 860 euros. It got rid of the juddering, poor performance and hissing noises. It was quite extensive work, but afterwards my car ran like new again. Could you provide more information about your car, such as the exact model name, mileage and maintenance history? That way I might be able to give you more specific advice.

Hi, thanks for your tip! I'll definitely take that into consideration and take a closer look at my Freestyle. Regarding the other information you asked: My Freestyle currently has 53744 kilometers on it. The last service was about 2000 km ago. There were no major problems, just the usual little things were replaced. Hope this helps you to make a more accurate assessment. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the additional info! Only 53744km, that's pretty good for a 2006 car, so based on the kilometers, you'd think there shouldn't be many problems yet. But of course, there's always the chance of a fault. Since you say that the last service was about 2000km ago and only minor things were done there, the problems you're having now could actually be due to the boost pressure sensor. When I had a problem with the wastegate valve at the time, the symptoms were very similar to yours and a diagnosis in the workshop then confirmed the defect. So I would still recommend that you get a professional to check the boost pressure sensor. Before you go to the workshop, you could also try reading out the fault memory again. Maybe there is a clue there that will help with the diagnosis. In any case, I hope you can solve the problem soon. I know how annoying this is. Good luck and let us know what it was in the end!

Hi, thanks for your advice! I will definitely have the fault memory read out and have the car checked professionally. So, hopefully the problem will be found and fixed at the garage! I'll definitely let you know as soon as I know more. Thanks again and all the best!
