Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2021 Ford Focus, gasoline engine. Recently it has been blowing black smoke out of the exhaust when accelerating, the check engine light comes on, the engine power decreases, there is an exhaust leak and the exhaust smells quite strong. I think it could be the exhaust aftertreatment system, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have experience with such symptoms and could possibly give me tips on how to narrow down the problems? I would be particularly interested to know how your garage has got to grips with this. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2019 Ford Fiesta. I'm a bit of a semi-expert when it comes to cars, so I took it straight to my regular garage. They then discovered that one of the lambda sensors was faulty. The repair cost me 375 euros, but after that the car ran smoothly again. Perhaps you have a similar problem? To be on the safe side, could you give me the exact engine designation and any error codes, if available? Then I might be able to help you more precisely.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had not yet considered this possibility. So my Ford is still in pretty good shape with about 142949 km at the moment. I don't know if there are any fault codes as I haven't taken it in for diagnostics yet. But I will take your advice and take it to the garage, and hopefully it's just a lambda sensor issue. I'll get back to you with the update then. Thanks again!

No problem, you're welcome! The symptoms on my Ford Fiesta were almost exactly the same as on your car. The lambda sensor thing was also just a shot in the dark, but with so many overlaps it sounds really plausible. 142949 km is also not a huge mileage for such a car.
