Problems with Ford Endeavour 2008: Black smoke, engine performance and high fuel consumption

Jerking on acceleration

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Ford Endeavour (gasoline engine, year of manufacture 2008). Recently, there has been black smoke when accelerating, the indicator light for the engine is on, the engine power goes down, the engine does not run smoothly and it jerks when accelerating. In addition, fuel consumption is high. I suspect a defect in the lambda sensor, but I wanted to hear your opinion and your experience with such a problem. How did you get it fixed in the workshop and how much did it cost? I'm grateful for any tips!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my Ford Explorer (gasoline engine, built in 2006). I'm not a car mechanic, but I do have some experience with cars. My tip would be to go to a good garage that specializes in Ford. My car also had a leaking exhaust, which cost me about 265 euros to fix. So it could be that you have a similar problem. Can you perhaps give more details about your car, such as the mileage and when you last changed the oil? Such information could help to narrow down the problem further. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your reply and the tip about the specialist workshop! My Ford Endeavour currently has 84521 km on it and the last service was recently. So it seems that the problem may be due to the exhaust leaking. I'll ask a garage and see what they say. Thanks again!

Hello again! Exactly, a visit to the garage is probably the best next step. The high mileage alone is nothing to worry about, at least in my experience with my 2006 Explorer. It's got a few more miles on it and still runs pretty well on the whole. A leaking exhaust could be one reason for the jerky driving and the other problems, but it could also be the lambda sensor that you mentioned. This plays an important role in exhaust gas regulation and, if it is defective, can cause symptoms such as jerky driving and high fuel consumption. At my garage, a new lambda sensor replacement cost around 200 euros, but this can of course vary from garage to garage. It can also do no harm to take another look at the ignition distributor and the ignition cables. This has been the cause of a jerky ride for me a few times. All the best!

Hello, thank you for writing again. It's reassuring to hear that the mileage isn't too high yet and that the car should be able to take a lot more. I find your advice very helpful and will keep it in mind when I visit the garage. Changing the lambda sensor would still be manageable for the budget, so I'm hoping it's this or a similarly inexpensive defect. Thanks also for the tips about the ignition distributor and the ignition cables, I wouldn't have thought of that. I will now look around for a workshop and hope that the problem can be fixed quickly. Many thanks for your help!

Hello everyone. After replacing a defective exhaust gas temperature sensor, an error message suddenly appeared again while I was driving and this time it was the lambda sensor. Is this normal and what would be the cause. Ford S-Max 02.2017 209ps biturbo

Please guys I am grateful for any answer. First it was error code p040d. And now it is p0138. Thank you very much. I really don't know what to do anymore.

Hello, No, it is not normal for another error to occur directly after the other sensor has been repaired. Did you disconnect anything when installing the exhaust gas temperature sensor or did you get to the cable connection? Have you ever checked the cable connection from the lambda sensor to the engine control unit?

No, I had it done at a specialist workshop. At ford directly. I went straight back and they did a readout and it said lambda sensor. They gave me an appointment for next week to check it. I have to leave the car there for 2 days.
