Problems with flickering lights and low battery in 2011 Ford Transit

Dim or flickering lights

Weak battery when starting the engine

Hey guys! I have a problem with my 2011 Ford Transit, gasoline engine. Lately it has been behaving strangely - the lights are flickering or getting dimmer and the battery seems weak when starting. I thought it might be the battery sensor, but I'm not sure. Have any of you experienced this before and can tell me how you solved it in the workshop? Would be grateful for any help!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2009 Ford Transit. I'm not a master mechanic, but I do have a bit of experience. In my case, the battery sensor microprocessor was defective. My garage was able to simply replace the part and I had to pay 315 euros. It could be the same problem with you, but I need more information about your vehicle. Does it otherwise drive normally? Have you changed the battery recently? The more information you provide, the better I can help you.

Thanks for the quick reply, mate! So my Ford Transit is still running pretty decent on the whole, no major problems apart from these electrical issues. I changed the battery about two years ago. My last service was at a mileage of 73472 km. Hope this helps you. Let me know what you think!

Hey, thanks for the additional info. So, it could actually be the same problem I had. However, your battery is only two years old and should still be good. However, a fault in the battery sensor can cause exactly these symptoms, i.e. a weak start and the lights flickering. Another point could be the alternator. If it's not working properly, it may not be supplying enough power to the battery and other electrical systems, which can lead to just such problems. Since you say the car is otherwise still running well, the battery sensor is more likely to be suspect...but of course you can't be sure until you take it to the garage. My advice to you: Go to your garage and have it checked. If it is the battery sensor, the replacement costs around 315 euros for my model, as mentioned. Even if it's a different problem, they should be able to identify it fairly quickly and give you an estimate. You should definitely get it fixed quickly because otherwise it could get bigger. Good luck!

Thank you for your comprehensive answer! Sounds plausible with the battery sensor or possibly the alternator. I'll follow your advice and take it to the workshop as soon as possible. Better sooner than later, I didn't want to let it slide anyway. I'll get back to you when I know more. See you then and thanks again for your help!
