Problems with engine light and starting difficulties in Mercedes B-Class 2005 - Possible fault in the cruise control system?

Longer cold start time

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Car won't start

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my 2005 Mercedes B-Class with a gasoline engine. The engine light comes on, the car takes longer to start, the performance drops, it jerks when accelerating and has high fuel consumption. In some cases, it won't start at all. I suspect that the problem could be a malfunction of the cruise control. Has anyone had similar experiences and could please give me some troubleshooting tips? I am particularly interested in how your garage has solved this problem. Thank you!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Mercedes A-Class. I would say I have some knowledge of cars, but I'm no expert. I took the car to my garage and they said that the intake ducts were heavily contaminated. This has caused my car to stutter and lose power. The repair cost me 425 euros, which I think was fair as there have been no problems since. Can you please give me more information about your car, such as the mileage or whether you have already been to your garage? Maybe then I can help you further.

Hey, thanks for your answer. Well, my car has 76607 km on it. The last inspection was also carried out recently, but everything was fine then. So I haven't yet visited the garage after the engine light came on. The idea of the intake ducts sounds interesting, I hadn't thought of it. I'll have a look at the weekend to see if that could be the problem. Thanks for the tip!

Hey, no problem, always welcome! Given the mileage, it could well be that the cause is also in the intake ducts. Inspections often don't reveal all possible problems, especially when it comes to contamination, as you only notice them when you actually look. However, it could also be the spark plugs or the ignition coil. These often cause prolonged starting behavior and occasional jerking during acceleration. So, if you don't find any impurities, I would check the ignition system or have it checked in the workshop. I hope I have been able to help you. Let me know how it goes and whether you have solved the problem. Good luck!

Hey, thanks again for your help! I will definitely look under the hood this weekend and inspect both the intake ducts and the ignition system more closely. Your advice has helped me a lot, the worst thing is always not knowing where to start. I'll keep you posted on how it goes and whether I've fixed the problem. Have a nice weekend!
