Problems with electronics and navigation system in Opel Meriva 2006 - looking for solutions and workshop experience

General electric malfunction

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Navigationssystem is not working

Hi folks, my 2006 Opel Meriva with a gasoline engine is having a few problems. The electronics are acting up, the navigation system no longer works and a warning light in the speedometer is on. I think there might be something wrong with the communication between the control units? Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem and can help me narrow it down? I would be particularly interested to know how a garage has solved it. Any information helps! Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2004 Opel Astra, I would describe myself as someone with little car knowledge so I went to the garage. Turned out it was the control unit that was faulty and sending wrong signals to the BUS system. The repair cost me 1000.0 euros. I suggest you find a good garage that specializes in this kind of thing. Can you tell me more about the symptoms of your car so that I can help you better?

Hi, thanks for your feedback. So, the symptoms are really confusing. Sometimes everything works perfectly and then all of a sudden, everything is mixed up. The warning tones come on sporadically, the indicators don't work and then suddenly they do again. The lights in the speedometer also flash wildly. My Meriva has covered 184840 km so far without any problems and there was no indication of a problem with the control unit at the last inspection. Probably only a visit to the workshop will help. But thanks for the tip about the control unit, now I know where to start!

Hey, no problem, I'm glad if I can help. The symptoms you describe do indeed sound like a problem with the control unit or the communication between the devices. This "sometimes yes, sometimes no" behavior is typical of an unstable system that has a fault somewhere. At 184,840 km, something can give up the ghost, even if nothing was found during the last inspection. Sometimes such problems really only appear when it's already too late. Please keep me posted on how it turns out at the workshop visit. Hopefully it's nothing serious and remains affordable. Good luck!

Hi, thanks again for your help! You're right, I really should have the car checked by a garage before it breaks down completely. The information you've given me is very helpful and gives me a better feeling of what to expect. I'll get back to you as soon as I know more.

It sounds like your car might be experiencing an idle issue. This could be due to a variety of reasons such as a dirty throttle body, a malfunctioning idle air control valve, or even a vacuum leak. Since you've already checked the spark plugs and vacuum, I would suggest cleaning the throttle body next. If the problem persists, you might want to have a mechanic inspect the idle air control valve. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions or concerns?

It sounds like your car might be having issues due to the impact from the accident. Even a minor accident can cause problems with the car's electrical system or fuel delivery. Start by checking the car's battery and fuses. If they are fine, you might want to inspect the fuel pump and ignition system. If the problem persists, it's best to have a mechanic inspect your car, especially since it involves the steering wheel angle sensor and CAN module. Please keep us updated on your progress.
