Problems with convertible top and warning light on Benz CLA 2019 - looking for advice and experience

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Convertible top cannot be opened or closed

Hey car friends, I have a conundrum with my 2019 Benz CLA Class - gasoline engine. The thing just won't run as usual. The convertible top won't open or close and the warning light in the speedometer is acting up. I suspect a distorted signal from the convertible top Hall sensor. Have any of you ever experienced something similar? How did you get it under control at your garage? Your experiences would really help me. Thank you!

Hello car friend! I had a pretty similar problem with my 2018 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, so basically your little brother. I would describe myself as a car enthusiast with some experience, but I too was at a loss with my Benz. It turned out that my garage had faulty wiring and connectors. They replaced them and charged me 95 euros. It then ran like clockwork again. To be able to help you better, it would be great if you could give me a few more details about your problem. How often does this problem occur? Has the workshop carried out a diagnosis? I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it! Stay relaxed, we'll get to grips with it somehow!

Hi, thanks for the tip. As car enthusiasts, we both probably know the agony that a car can sometimes cause. My mileage is 182382 km and my last service was about six months ago. The problem has been occurring more and more frequently recently, especially at higher temperatures. I haven't had it professionally diagnosed yet, as I've tried to fix it myself first. Well, so far without success. Maybe I really do need to take it to the garage... Seems like your advice might be pretty spot on with the wiring and connectors. At least the 95 euros sounds better than paying for a new convertible top! I'll look into it. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem! I'm glad if I can help. Your mileage is pretty high, so some wearing parts or connections could be giving up the ghost. Problems like this occur with increasing age and mileage. Since you say the problem occurs especially at higher temperatures, it could even indicate that the electronics are being affected by heat. It would definitely be worth having the car checked out. Really try to check or replace the cables and plugs. The 95 euros in the workshop could really be worth it compared to the price tag of a new convertible top! And who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and it's 'only' a minor issue. Good point about doing it yourself, by the way. Sometimes you can really save a lot of money if you have a bit of knowledge and do it yourself - but sometimes a professional is a professional. Keep your fingers crossed that you get the problem under control soon and that my tip helps you! Let us know how it turns out. See you then and have a safe journey!

Thanks, buddy! Definitely good to hear that I'm not alone with the problem. I agree with you, sometimes it ends up being cheaper to have a professional diagnose and repair rather than investing unnecessary time and money in DIY solutions. Your comments about the climatic conditions and possible damage to the electronics also make total sense. I will definitely bring this up the next time I visit the workshop. Good idea to check the wiring and plugs. Fingers crossed that it's only the 95 euros! I appreciate your help and will keep you posted as soon as I have solved the problem. See you then and have a safe journey!
