Problems with Citroën Jumper Diesel 2011: Pre-glow indicator, black smoke, high consumption and defective DPF regeneration

Pre-glow light won't turn off

DPF regeneration failure

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Car won't start

Longer cold start time

Poor fuel economy

Hey guys, my 2011 Citroën Jumper Diesel is experiencing strange problems. Recently, the pre-glow indicator has stopped going off, black smoke comes out of the exhaust when accelerating and the check engine light is on. The cranking is also longer in the cold months and sometimes the car won't start at all. It also sucks in far too much fuel and the DPF regeneration doesn't work properly either. I suspect that a glow plug is defective. Can you share your experience and troubleshooting tips with me? I would like to know how you have solved such problems in the workshop. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2009 Citroën Berlingo Diesel. I am not a car mechanic, but have some experience with cars. The problem turned out to be a faulty glow plug due to wear and tear. I had it repaired at the garage and it cost 560 euros. Since then, the car has been running as normal again. Can you perhaps provide more information about your vehicle? Then I might be able to help in more detail.

Hi, thanks for the quick response. Yes, it does look like a faulty glow plug. My car has 121285 KM down so far and the last service was about a month ago. But I think I'll probably have to take it to the garage. Hopefully it won't be too expensive, but thanks for the cost advice. Do you have any tips on which garage is trustworthy and does good work? Thanks again!

Hey, I'm glad the info could help you in some way. With the mileage you've given, wear on the glow plugs is definitely a possibility. Now yes, a trip to the garage will probably be unavoidable. As for the garage, I can give you a recommendation, but it depends on where you live. In the Berlin area, I've had very good experiences with the "Schrauber-Palast" garage. The guys there are not only DPF experts, but also solved my glow plug problem quickly and reliably. Perhaps you can give them a call for a precise diagnosis and a cost estimate. Incidentally, in addition to the glow plugs, the DPF (diesel particulate filter) could also play a role, especially if the car drives a lot of short distances or is not often driven on highways. I hope this helps you and wish you good luck in solving the problem. Keep us up to date.

Hey, thanks for the recommendation and the valuable information! Well, I live in Cologne, but I'll look for a similar garage and give them a call if necessary to find out more. Your assumption about the DPF could also be correct, as I actually often drive short distances. In any case, I will now have my car thoroughly checked. I hope to get the problem solved soon. I will definitely keep you up to date. Many thanks for your help!
