Problems with Citroen C3 Diesel 2010: Black smoke, warning light, loss of power and boost pressure sensor?

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Poor fuel economy

Strong exhaust smell

Check engine light on

Loud hissing on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Whistling noise

Loss of engine power

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my Citroen C3 Diesel, built in 2010. It has been doing strange things recently: Black smoke when accelerating, warning light for the engine is on, loss of power, jerks when accelerating, loud hissing and whistling when accelerating, modest mileage, strong exhaust odor. I think the boost pressure sensor could be broken. Has anyone here had similar experiences or even knows what exactly is broken and how it was fixed in the workshop? Would be grateful for any tips!

Hello, I have had a similar problem with my Citroen C1, built in 2008. It sounds to me like a defective turbocharger. I have basic knowledge of cars, so I'm not a professional. I took my car to the garage and they found that the turbocharger was faulty. That cost me 1070 euros. Perhaps you could give me some more information about your car? When did the problem start? Has the condition worsened? The more details, the better I can probably help you. Regards.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes, you could be right - could actually be the turbocharger. The problem started about a month ago and has slowly worsened since then. The loud hissing and smoke is particularly annoying. Nothing unusual was found at the last service with a mileage of 47724 km, but now it just feels wrong. Hope this helps. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, always welcome! Yeah, your description sounds a lot like what happened to me with my Citroën. The gradual deterioration and the hissing.... Those were also the signs that the turbocharger was on its way to death. This not only makes driving uncomfortable, but can also be really expensive because it can damage the engine in the long term. I would advise you to go to the garage as soon as possible and have it checked. Even if it looks like expensive fun at first glance, believe me, it can be even more expensive in the long run if the defective turbocharger causes further damage. So better an expensive repair now than even more expensive late damage. Good luck and keep us up to date. Drive safely! Best regards.

Hi, good tip, thanks! You're absolutely right, I'll take my car to the garage as soon as possible and have it checked out. I really don't want to risk causing any more damage and making it even more expensive. I'll get back to you when I know exactly what's wrong. Thanks for your help and advice. I'm already driving carefully! See you next time!
