Problems with Citroen C2 Diesel: Black smoke, engine switches off and starting difficulties

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2005 Citroen C2 Diesel. When accelerating I see black smoke coming out of the exhaust, the check engine light is on, the engine shuts itself off, cold starts take longer than usual and sometimes the car won't start at all. I suspect it could be due to a fault in the fuel filter heater. Have any of you ever had similar symptoms and can perhaps give me some advice? How did you solve the problem and what experiences have you had? Any help is welcome and many thanks in advance for your answers!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2007 Citroen C3 diesel. I wouldn't call myself an automotive expert, but I do have a bit of experience with my own car and its quirks. At my garage they found that the wiring harness/plug for the fuel filter heater was damaged. The repair cost me 110 euros. It could be that your C2 has the same problem. It would be good if you could provide some vehicle information, such as mileage, whether the car has crashed before or any relevant history? That would give us a better idea of the problem. Good luck with it!

Hi, thanks for the tip! My Citroen has run 117713 kilometers so far and the last service was about 6 months ago. There are no relevant incidents or accidents. If it really is the defective wiring harness/plug of the fuel filter heater, I would say that 110 euros is a fair price for the repair. I hope this solves my problem. Thanks again for the help!

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help! Your Citroen has already come a long way. Given the mileage and if the car has been carefully maintained, it could well be that it's really just the wiring harness for the heater. I also think 110 euros for this is fair, it also helped a lot with my own car. I would recommend that you have it checked by a garage as soon as possible. You don't want it to get any worse, depending on how often and how long you have to drive the car. Good luck and hopefully you'll have the problem solved soon!

Hi, yes, that's good advice. I will try to get this checked at a garage as soon as possible to avoid it getting worse. I really appreciate your help and thank you again. Keep your fingers crossed that it's just the heater wiring harness and no major problems arise! Enjoy your day and stay healthy!
