Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2006 Citroen Berlingo gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, the engine shuts off by itself, there is a loss of power and the engine runs rough. The car also won't start and there is a warning light in the speedometer. I have found a fault in the engine control unit in the fault memory. Have any of you ever had a fault like this and could give me some tips on how you fixed it? Any workshop experience would be helpful. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I have had a similar problem with my 2008 Citroen C3 gasoline engine. My car knowledge is pretty modest, so I went to my garage and relied on their expertise. It turned out that there was a problem with the sporadically faulty communication between the control units. The repair cost me 955 euros, but afterwards the car ran perfectly again. Can you perhaps give me a little more detail about your car? Maybe then I can help you better.

Hey, thanks for the tip! My Berlingo now has 131908 KM on it and the last service was about 5000 KM ago. I keep hearing about the engine control unit. I also think it might be an ECU problem. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. I'll come back to it when the garage I trust finds out more. It's really reassuring to talk to people who have had the same problem. Hopefully it won't cost me as much. Thanks again!

No problem, always happy to help! Your symptoms do sound quite similar to the ones I had. So it could well be that your Berlingo has the same problem. If that's the case, then unfortunately you'll have to expect similar costs if the repair is done by the same garage. Of course, this should be less for an older model. However, you could also consider trying to get a used control unit - this could bring the costs down again. Of course, there's always a bit of risk involved, but if the spare part is still in good condition, it could be worth it. At least I wanted to give you the option. I hope this helps you a little and wish you the best of luck in solving the problem!

Hi, really great that you've taken the time to help me out here! The used control unit sounds interesting, I'll take that into consideration. It's risky, of course, as you said, but it could really be worth it financially. First I'll try to get more information from the garage and then see what the best solution is. I'm just glad to get some guidance here. It's quite a nightmare when the car is acting up like this. Thanks again for your tips and support, it's really worth its weight in gold! Keep your fingers crossed that the garage does a good job and that it doesn't hurt so much financially. See you then!
