Problems with check engine light and loss of power in Mercedes C Class, model year 2018: Possible causes and solutions

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Mercedes C Class, year of manufacture 2018, petrol engine. Lately I have noticed the Check Engine light on, loss of power, rough engine running, jerking during acceleration and poor fuel consumption. I think the intake air temperature sensor could be the problem. Have any of you ever had similar problems and can give me some tips? I am particularly interested in how you finally solved the problem in the workshop and what your experiences were. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, I've had a similar problem with my 2016 Mercedes E-Class diesel. I have very little experience with cars, so I sought professional help. A diagnosis was made in my workshop and it turned out that the evaluation electronics were defective (engine control unit). I ended up paying 1000 euros to fix the whole thing. It's probably not exactly the same problem, but maybe it can help you anyway? I would need more information about your vehicle to be able to help you more precisely. Have you ever had a diagnosis carried out in a workshop? Greetings!

Hey, thanks for your answer and the information. No, I haven't had an official diagnosis done yet. At the last service about 123037 kilometers ago, everything was still fine. Maybe I really should visit a garage and have it checked. Thanks for your advice! Greetings!

Hey, no problem, always happy to help! Yes, I would also really recommend that you visit a workshop. It could be that various parts need to be replaced or maybe there's just a simple software update that will solve your problem. My Mercedes E-Class actually had a similar symptom and the garage was able to fix the problem. Above all, the engine control unit should definitely be checked. You already have a high mileage, so of course several components could be affected. I'm curious to see what the workshop will say. Let us know if you have more information or if there is a solution. Greetings!

Hello, thank you very much for replying again and for your good advice. I think I will follow your advice and visit a garage soon. It's better to be safe than sorry before the problem gets worse. I will definitely keep you posted when I get more info from the mechanic. Your thoughts on the engine control unit are very helpful and I'll make sure to get that checked out. Thanks again! See you then!

@MertMousa

Where is the intake temperature sensor for w212

The intake air temperature sensor for a Mercedes-Benz W212 is typically located in the intake manifold or the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. However, the exact location can vary depending on the specific model and engine type. It's always a good idea to refer to your vehicle's service manual for precise information. If you're planning to check or replace it yourself, make sure the engine is cool before you start to avoid any injuries. Let us know how it goes or if you have any other questions.
