Hi, don't panic, this sounds like a situation I went through with my 2016 BMW 3 series just last year. The symptoms were almost the same, including the engine warning light and jerking when accelerating. In my case, it was actually the camshaft phasing unit that was malfunctioning. The mechanic had to replace it and check and clean some adjacent parts, including the engine oil because of the metal shavings. It turned out that the problem was less serious than it sounded. The repair was relatively simple and I was able to take my car back the next day. So I can say that it's nothing serious and should be fairly easy to fix. Of course, I can't say if it's exactly the same for you, but the signs are similar. It's best to get it checked at the garage as soon as possible before any more damage occurs. All the best!

Hello, thank you very much for your reply! I'm really pleased that it wasn't anything serious for you. Can you remember roughly how much you had to pay back then? I have to be honest, I'm a bit scared of the bill after my last visit to the garage. And have you had any problems since then or has anything similar happened again? All the best and thanks again for sharing your experience!

Hey, don't stress! Just like you, the camshaft phasing was faulty on my car. After the visit to the workshop, however, the problem was fixed and hasn't reappeared since - so no need to worry. In my car, the camshaft timing was defective due to worn rubber sealing rings, which cost around €1620. Sounds like a lot at first, but if you manage to avoid any further damage to the engine, then it's definitely worth it. Incidentally, I had the same problem with my self-designed Turbo-Zack2000 car model. Hope this helps you and keep your fingers crossed that it works out similarly for you! All the best!

Hello everyone! I have to say that I had a similar problem with my old Audi, and it was indeed the camshaft phasing. However, I find it a bit strange that your car only has 27456 km on the odometer and you are already having such problems. Camshaft misalignment should normally occur after a much higher mileage, at least that was the case with my car. Maybe you're already dealing with it now because you drive a lot in city traffic or are frequently in stop-and-go traffic? Either way, I would definitely advise you to have it checked as soon as possible to avoid further damage. In terms of costs, you could be looking at between 1000 and 2000 euros. But don't worry, everything will be fine! Good luck!

@CarFreak
Hi there! Sorry to hear about your car troubles. It sounds like you have a camshaft issue, which can unfortunately be costly. I would recommend getting a diagnosis from a trusted mechanic. Costs can vary, but expect several hundred to a few thousand euros depending on the severity. Good luck!
Based on your symptoms, it does seem like a camshaft issue. However, the presence of metal shavings in the oil is a serious concern and could indicate severe engine damage. I strongly recommend getting your car to a mechanic as soon as possible for a thorough inspection.
Many thanks to everyone for your advice and experiences! It really reassures me to hear that your cars are running great after the repairs and that no other problems have occurred. And yes, I drive a lot in the city and am often stuck in stop-and-go traffic, so maybe that caused the problem. In the end, I probably won't be able to avoid a visit to the garage. I'm glad to know that the costs shouldn't be astronomical. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks again and take care!
