Problems with automatic transmission and grinding noises in Skoda Octavia 2014: experiences and suggested solutions?

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Whining or grinding noises

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my Skoda Octavia (petrol engine, built in 2014). Actually, it always runs reliably, but recently the automatic transmission has been jerking around, there are strange grinding noises when shifting gears and somehow it howls and grinds under the sheet metal. I suspect a problem with the transmission oil pressure, but maybe you have any other ideas as to what else could be behind it? How have you solved such problems and what experiences have you had in the workshop? I would really appreciate any tips!

Hi mate, I once had a similar problem with my Skoda Superb, which is only a few years older (built in 2012). I'm not an expert, but I'd say I have average experience with cars. At my garage I was told that the gearbox oil level was too low. After they filled in fresh oil and checked a few other things, my car was running smoothly again. The bill for this was 365 euros. Can you maybe give a bit more info about your car? For example, how long has it been since the last oil change or service? That way I could try to help you even better. I hope this helps you a little!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply! My last oil change was at 95000 km, so around 1800 km ago. I haven't had any services done since then either. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my problem, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I'll definitely check out the transmission fluid idea. Sounds like a good start, thank you!

Hi again, no problem, always happy to help! It looks like the last oil change should be relatively recent, 1800 km ago, but you never know. Depending on where and how you drive, the wear can go faster. I think checking the transmission oil pressure would be a good step, that sounds like a realistic cause. Maybe your transmission also has a small leak that is causing the pressure to drop. But in any case, keep us posted and let us know what the garage says. Good luck and step on the gas!

Hey, great, thanks for your support! I'll take it to the garage and keep your advice in mind. Maybe it's actually the gearbox oil or a leak. I'll let you know as soon as I know anything new. Thanks again and have a safe journey!

Hello, The simplest solution would of course be to check the transmission oil level first. I don't think you have a normal automatic gearbox but a DSG gearbox. Has the oil already been changed? Because there is a fixed service interval here, if I remember correctly. MFG
