Problems with Audi A8: Engine indicator light, loss of power and loud noises - experience and tips wanted

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Loss of engine power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Hello everyone, I have a strange problem with my Audi A8 (diesel engine, year of manufacture 2018). Currently, the check engine light is on, the engine has less power and runs rough, the car jerks when accelerating and makes loud hissing noises. The car also shakes when idling. I suspect that the faulty swirl flap control on the intake manifold could be the cause, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had similar experiences? How was the problem solved at your garage and what was your experience? Any tips are welcome. Many thanks in advance!

Hi, this reminds me of a similar problem I once had with my Audi A6 (diesel engine, year 2016). I would describe myself as someone with little car knowledge, but I'm still learning a lot. I had to take my car to the garage because it was showing very similar symptoms to yours: less power and rough running, jerking on acceleration and hissing noises. It turned out that the flaps in the gearshift intake manifold were defective. The repair service cost me 940 euros, and after the repair it ran perfectly again. But to be more certain, could you give me more details about your engine and any fault codes? That could help me to advise you better. I hope this helps you. All the best with the repair!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! It's true, that sounds pretty similar to what I'm currently experiencing, although I don't have an exact fault code yet. My last inspection and mileage was 236,351 km. Will probably have to make it to the garage too - hopefully it won't cost me as much as it did you. I'll keep you posted and let you know what the guys at the garage find. Thanks again for the help, really cool of you. All the best!

Hey, you're welcome! It's really annoying when problems like this occur, but I'm glad I could help. On my car, it was actually the swirl flaps that were causing problems, so you might be right. The cost of the repair can vary though, depending on what the garage charges in terms of labor and parts. Hopefully it will cost a bit less in your case. If you have any more information or need help, just write. I'm not a professional, but I'm happy to share my experiences. And keep us up to date with the outcome of the workshop visit. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing too serious. All the best and safe driving!

Hello, thank you again for your support! You're right, it's really frustrating when problems like this occur, but your experiences are very helpful. Hopefully it won't be as expensive as yours. I'll keep you posted on how I get on at the garage - hopefully it's nothing too serious. I guess your fingers are really crossed. Take care and drive safely! See you later and thanks again!
