Problems with Audi A8 Diesel 2010: Unusual symptoms and possible fuel filter heater defect

Hi everyone, I'm having some trouble with my 2010 Audi A8 diesel. The car has been showing some unusual symptoms: black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, the check engine light comes on, the engine sometimes turns off by itself, the car takes longer to start in the cold and sometimes it won't start at all. I think it could be due to a fault in the fuel filter heater, but I'm not sure. Do any of you have experience of a problem like this or even any tips on how to fix it? I am particularly interested to hear how you have solved the problem in your workshop and what your general experience has been. Thank you in advance!

Hi, I have had a similar problem with my 2012 Audi A6 diesel. I would describe myself as someone with little experience, but I have learned to look under the hood. At my garage they found that the fuel filter heater fuse was faulty. They fixed it for only 60 euros. One question just for clarity: could you please give the exact model range and also the mileage? That would help me understand the problem better and maybe give more details. Hope that helps for now!

Hey, thanks for your answer. My A8 has about 122735 km on it. I hope that helps you. Your experience sounds really helpful, I'll ask my garage about the fuel filter heater fuse.

Hello again! At that mileage, I would definitely take a look at the fuel filter heater. In my Audi, this was a problem at around 100,000 km. Definitely have it checked at your garage. Maybe it's just the fuse, like mine. Hopefully that will solve your problem. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hey, thanks for the tip! I'll definitely take it up with my garage and hope it's just the fuse. Thanks again for your help and your time! I really appreciate it. Have a good day!
