Problems with Audi A3 petrol engine 2017: Engine indicator light on, high consumption and exhaust odor - Possible air valve fault?

Check engine light on

Strong exhaust smell

Poor fuel economy

Hi everyone, does anyone have any experience with a 2017 Audi A3 petrol engine that is showing rather strange symptoms? The check engine light is on, consumption is quite high and there is a strong smell of exhaust fumes. I suspect it could be a problem with the air valve (air valve faulty). Have any of you ever had similar problems and how did you get it fixed at the garage? I would really appreciate some tips!

Hi, I once had a similar problem with my 2015 Audi A5 diesel. I have limited experience with car problems, but at the garage I found out that the hose connection from the pump to the valve was defective. This problem was fixed and the repair cost me 175 euros. It could be possible that your A3 has the same problem, although I have no exact knowledge of it. Could you perhaps share some information such as chassis number, mileage etc. to help you better?

Hey, thanks for the feedback! My A3 has run 15883 km so far. The last service was very recent, so everything should be in order. Would it make sense to have a complete inspection done again? Maybe I can find a mechanic who will give me a good price.

Hey, no problem! In my opinion, it's definitely a good idea to have your A3 completely checked again, especially if you've already noticed that something is wrong. Even if it hasn't been long since the last service, unforeseen problems can always crop up. And especially with a specific problem like yours, it can really help to have a professional take a closer look. Just bear in mind that this can cost a few euros, depending on the workshop. But it's better to have one more look and get the problem fixed quickly than to make it worse, right?

Yes, you're absolutely right. I will definitely have a specialist look at it. Better to be safe than to have more trouble and costs afterwards. Thanks again for your advice! If I have any news, I'll let you know. I hope it's nothing serious...
