Hey, thanks for your answer. My last inspection was just under a year ago at a mileage of 118450 km. I haven't changed the battery since then, so I think it might just be old. As far as I know, I have a factory fitted alarm system. The battery has always been pretty weak when starting, but the alarm problems are new. So do you think the problem is with the base module? Honestly, I have no idea what that is - could you explain in more detail? Thanks again for your help!

Moin, don't worry, I can understand that this is all confusing. By the basic module, I meant the control unit for the anti-theft alarm system. It is the brain of the security system, so to speak - controls the sensors and sends out alarms if something is wrong. Simply put, if the base module is faulty, it can cause the alarm system to go off irregularly or for no reason. It could also be the cause of your starting problems, as the anti-theft alarm system drains a lot of the battery when starting the engine. However, it also sounds like your battery may be weak due to its age. It might be a good idea to have the battery checked first. Because a weak battery can also cause some strange symptoms - including problems with the alarm system. I hope this helps you for now. Good luck solving the problem quickly! P.S. Have you been to the diagnostic equipment or have you been to a garage to read the fault memory? This could also be helpful.

Hey, thanks a lot for the detailed explanation, that sheds a lot of light on the whole thing. I had no idea that the ECU could have such an effect on the alarm system and starting the engine. I haven't connected a diagnostic device or visited the garage to read the fault memory yet - I wanted to try a bit myself first and ask for opinions before dealing with the professionals. But it's true, that's probably the next logical step. You're right, I should have the battery checked too. It's been a while since it's been changed and it would make sense if it's just old and weak. Thank you so much for your help and I'll let you know what comes up once I figure it out. Thanks again and have a great day!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2004 Ford Fusion a few years ago. I also had the alarm system acting up and the battery performance was poor when starting. After some fiddling around (I would describe myself as an intermediate car hobbyist), I took my car to the garage. The problem was apparently the "base module". It was defective and had to be replaced. The repair cost me a total of 465 euros. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you perhaps give me a few more details about your car? For example, what alarm system have you installed and when was the last time you changed your battery? Good luck with your troubleshooting!
