Problems with ABS systems and brake pressure sensor on Toyota Etios 2012 - experiences and solutions wanted

Unresponsive brake pedal

Spongy/unresponsive brakes

ABS/DSC system is not working

ABS warning light

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey guys, I have a problem with my Toyota Etios (built in 2012, gasoline). The ABS systems are out of order, the ABS warning light is on, the brake pedal barely reacts and the brakes feel spongy. A warning light is also illuminated in the speedometer. I think that the pressure sensor on the brake booster may be faulty - does anyone know this? What have you done to solve the problem and what were your experiences in the workshop? I am grateful for any tips and experience.

Hi. So, I had a similar problem with my 2010 Toyota Yaris, but I'm not a full blown mechanic, just someone with some experience. The problems were mounting up, including the ABS warning light and a spongy brake feel. Took it to my local garage and it turned out the brake system was bled incorrectly. After correcting it, it only cost me around 90 euros. But to be able to tell you more, I would need more information about the vehicle. What is the mileage, the general condition and when was the last service or inspection carried out? This could help to narrow down the problem more precisely. Hope this helps you.

Thanks for the quick reply. My Etios now has 187380 KM on it. The last service was about six months ago. The car is otherwise in good condition; I have had the engine and brakes checked regularly. Only this ABS problem is new and really annoying. There could be something to your tip about the incorrect bleeding, I'll have it checked at the garage. I hope it's nothing serious and remains within the price range. Thanks again!

Hey, no problem! Given the mileage, it is definitely possible that parts will wear out and need to be replaced. The brake system in particular can be affected. Poor bleeding could be one cause. On the other hand, you could be right in suspecting the pressure sensor on the brake booster. I almost forgot, I once had the same problem with my Yaris. The garage replaced the sensor and that was it. It cost around 150 euros, if I remember correctly. Have it checked and keep us up to date! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's nothing major and that your Etios will soon be fit again. Have a safe journey!

Hey, very helpful to hear your experience. If it is the pressure sensor and the repair costs around 150 euros, then that would be a bearable investment. I'll take the vehicle to the workshop tomorrow for a check-up and hope that it really is just this sensor. I will keep you up to date. Thanks again for your support and have a safe journey!
