Problems with 2018 Ford Focus: Black smoke, loss of power and frequent engine shutdowns

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Strong exhaust smell

Loss of engine power

Engine shuts off by itself

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Poor fuel economy

Hi guys! I have a real problem with my 2018 Ford Focus gasoline engine. Recently it has been emitting black smoke when accelerating, the engine sometimes just stalls, has a loss of power, runs out of round, jerks when accelerating and eats fuel like crazy. There is also a strong smell of exhaust fumes and it stalls when idling. The check engine light is also on. I suspect that the fuel volume regulator could be faulty, but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever had similar problems and know how to fix it? Would love to hear more about what was done at the garage to fix this and what your experiences were. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Ford Fiesta. As someone with little car knowledge, it was quite stressful for me. So I went straight to the garage. The mechanic suspected a problem with the wiring harness/plug. After replacing it for 155 euros, the car ran perfectly again. So maybe that could be the case for you too? But without more information about your vehicle, it's difficult to help you exactly. Maybe you can give more details about your vehicle? Engine size, kilometers driven, etc. Then I might be able to say more.

Hey, thanks for your advice. Well, my Focus now has 105077 km on it and the last service was a while ago. Maybe I really should have the wiring harness/plug checked. That would definitely be cheaper than buying a new fuel volume regulator. Your experience has really helped me. Thank you!

Hey, no problem, we're all happy to help here. So if your Focus has already done 105077 km and it's been a while since the last service, then I would definitely recommend taking the car to the garage and having the wiring harness/plug checked. It may well be that the problem is caused by this, unfortunately there are many parts on the car that can give up the ghost at this mileage. Or maybe it's just a minor repair and the fuel volume regulator isn't the problem. But without a thorough check of the car, you can never know for sure. So it's best to make an appointment at the garage and see what the professionals have to say. Good luck and hopefully the problem will be solved quickly!

Hello again! Thanks for your advice. Now that you mention it, it really does seem more logical to check the wiring harness/plug before I skip to the fuel volume regulator. I will follow your advice and take my car to the garage to have it checked thoroughly. Thanks again for the help. I'll let you know if I have any news.
