Problems and solutions for defective massage seat in Renault Avantime (2001, diesel)

Massage seat without function

Hey guys, have any of you ever had problems with the massage seat in the Renault Avantime (built in 2001, diesel)? It just doesn't work for me anymore. I suspect that the switch is faulty, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any experience of this or any tips on how I can isolate the problem? I am also interested in how you solved the problem in the workshop and what your experiences were. Many thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Renault Espace (built in 1999, diesel). Although I have little experience with car mechanics, I was able to find the fault. It was the cable connection/plug that was defective. I then replaced the part with my buddy, who has a small workshop, and got it working again. However, I had to pay him 95 euros for the parts and labor. Which model do you have exactly? Maybe I can help you with a few more details.

Hi, thanks for the tip! That's a good starting point. My model is the Avantime, built in 2001 and now has 144047 kilometers on the clock, the last service was recently. I'll check the cable connection. But what else interests me: Was the replacement complicated? Which spare parts did you have to buy exactly? I hope I can manage that before I have to go to the workshop.

Hey, I'm glad if I can help you! So with my Espace, the replacement was actually pretty straightforward. Sure, you have to be a bit careful because you're handling the car's electronic parts. But with a little patience and care, it's doable! For my Espace, we had to replace the massage seat wiring harness that we ordered from the internet. That cost around 55 euros. The rest was labor costs. I've heard that the Avantime and Espace have partly identical parts because they were built at the same time. So you could use the same spare part. And another tip, check that the plug is in correctly, sometimes it just slips out and the problem is not the switch itself. Hope that helps you for now. Keep me posted on whether it works! Good luck!

Thanks for the support and the detailed information! It's really handy to know that Avantime and Espace have similar parts. I will check the cable connection this weekend and check the plug as you suggested. I will also have a look at the wiring harness for the massage seat on the internet. Hopefully the problem is easy to fix and I don't have to spend a lot of money at the garage. Would hate to pay the 95 euros you had to pay, although it's still cheaper than a new massage seat. I'll keep you posted! Thanks again!
