Problem with the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel of a Renault Kangoo 2006: experience and solutions wanted

Buttons on multifunction steering wheel without function

Hi folks, I have a strange problem with my Renault Kangoo (petrol engine, built in 2006). The buttons on the multifunction steering wheel simply no longer work. Could this be the fault with the multifunction steering wheel? Have any of you ever experienced this and can perhaps give me a few tips on how to isolate the problem? I would like to know what was done in your workshop to rectify this fault and what experience you have had with it. Thanks for your help!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Renault Clio (petrol engine, built in 2008). I describe myself as someone with little experience in this area. However, when I noticed the problem, I quickly drove to my garage. The guys there checked the car over and found that the control unit was faulty. I actually had to pay around 1000 euros to fix the problem. Could you perhaps give me some more information about your car? For example, how long have you had this problem and are there any other symptoms? Maybe then I could help you in more detail!

Hey, my Kangoo already has 145396 km on it and the last service was recently. I only noticed the problem last week and everything else on the car works fine. The strange part is that sometimes the buttons work and then again they don't. It seems to be kind of sporadic. But your approach with the control unit sounds plausible, maybe I should just have an expert look at it. Thanks for your advice!

Hey, this can be really frustrating. I was lucky with my old Clio, it wasn't anything sporadic, the buttons just didn't work at all, so the problem was easy to identify. But in your case, since the problem isn't constant, it could be a little more complicated. It could basically be anything from a problem with the connection to a faulty part. If you're really lucky, it could even just be a bit of rust or dirt blocking the contacts. Like you said, it could be the control unit, like on my old Clio. It could also be a bit of moisture getting into the electronics and giving false signals. In any case, I recommend you get it looked at by a professional. Sometimes you can save a lot of money by trying to fix things yourself, but in this case it sounds like it would be better to leave it to a professional. I hope this helps and you get it sorted soon!

Hey, thanks for your detailed reply and the helpful tips. I also think it's best to have a professional take a look at it. I just hope that the damage is not too bad and not too expensive. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to get to grips with a bit of moisture or dirt myself, but I'd rather leave everything else to the professionals. Thanks again for your help!
