Problem with Peugeot 107 Diesel 2014: Engine problems, high fuel consumption and exhaust odor

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Strong exhaust smell

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Engine shuts off by itself

Hi guys, I have a problem with my 2014 Peugeot 107 Diesel. It is behaving strangely: when accelerating, black smoke comes out of the exhaust, the check engine light comes on, the engine shuts down on its own and loses power. The engine runs erratically, the car jerks when accelerating, has high fuel consumption, a strong exhaust smell and stalls when idling. I think it could be a fault in the low pressure fuel system. Has anyone had the same problem and been to the garage? How did they solve it? I would be very happy to hear your experiences and tips!

Hi, I have some experience as I experienced something similar with my 2012 Peugeot 108 diesel. It turned out that there were incorrect software values for the fuel pump. I had this checked and corrected at my garage. However, it cost me 45 euros to rectify the fault. But of course, all cars are different and I'm not sure if this is the problem with your car. Can you perhaps provide more information about your car? For example, which model variant it is? Maybe then I can help you further. I hope your problem is solved quickly!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the troubleshooting tip. I've gone through the service booklets again. My 107 Peugeot is from 2014 and has a whopping 149478 KM on the clock. It was last serviced a month ago at an authorized workshop, where only the filter and oil were changed. I drive the standard version. Your suggestion with the software values for the fuel pump sounds like a sensible approach, has anyone else here had any experience with a problem like this? I would appreciate any tips!

Hi, thanks for your detailed information! You seem to look after your Peugeot quite well with regular servicing and so on. With your mileage and the symptoms you mentioned, I would definitely have the injectors checked, as they could be very dirty or broken. From my own experience, I can say that this can indeed lead to the problems you mentioned, as the fuel supply becomes uneven if the injectors are broken. Your idea about the fault in the low-pressure fuel system is not wrong either. A defective fuel pump can also lead to your problems. A defect in this area could, for example, cause a reduced fuel supply, which in turn can lead to a loss of engine power. Based on the symptoms alone, I would really recommend having a specialist look at it. And as I've said before, the solution for my Peugeot was the software update for the fuel pump. It's possible that your 107 has the same problem, but if I were you I would first have the points mentioned checked (injectors, fuel pump). Hopefully this will help you and I wish you the best of luck! Let us know what the garage says.

Many thanks for your helpful suggestions! It makes sense to check both the injectors and the fuel pump. I will take your advice and have the car checked by a professional. You're right, it really could be the fuel pump software, just like your Peugeot. I will also point this out to the mechanic. Your experience helps me a lot, I'm really reassured now. I will definitely let you know when I have any news. Thanks again for your help!
