Problem with non-functioning brake light on Citroen C5 petrol engine, model year 2005: experience and suggested solutions wanted

Brake light not working

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2005 Citroen C5 petrol car. The brake light no longer works and I think it might be due to an unreliable signal from the brake light. Have any of you ever had a problem like this and could give me some troubleshooting tips? I'd be interested to know how you solved it in the workshop. Any experience is welcome!

Hey mate, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Citroen DS4 diesel, I'm not a car expert but I have a bit of experience with cars. I then went to my garage and they found out that the footwell module was faulty. This problem cost me 475 euros to fix. Could you maybe give more information about your car? Like if you've done any modifications or when you last serviced it? Maybe then I can help a little more specifically. Stay clean!

Hey, thanks for the info! I haven't actually made any modifications, and my last service was at 126432 KM. I hope it's nothing major and doesn't cost too much. In any case, thanks for your help, maybe someone else can add their two cents! Stay healthy everyone!

Hi, always happy to help! With your mileage, it could also be due to the age of the car. My Citroen had similar problems after around 130000 KM. It could simply be a worn light bulb or what was noticeable on my Citroen, the fuse was blown. It only cost me a few euros to replace it myself. My garage recommended checking these simple things first before you go deeper into the engine compartment. But if you don't feel confident, get it checked by a professional. The cost could then vary, but probably less than my "footwell module disaster". Take it easy and let us know how it went!

Thanks, that sounds like a good first port of call. I'll check out the bulbs and fuses. I'm glad I asked you before I panicked and ran to the garage. I'll let you know when I know more! Stay cool too!

Hey! I had a very similar issue with my car. I think the best thing to do is check the brake light switch near the pedal and inspect the wiring for any damage. Sometimes, it can just be a blown fuse or faulty bulbs. Hope this helps!
