Problem with ignition starter switch on Citroen C8 Diesel, model year 2005 - experience and workshop advice wanted

Car won't start

Ignition cannot be switched on

Hello folks! I have a problem with my 2005 Citroen C8 Diesel. It just won't start and I can't switch on the ignition. This is probably a problem with the ignition starter switch. Have any of you ever had a similar case and know how to fix it? I would also be very interested to hear about your experiences with the garage. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2003 Citroen Berlingo Diesel. I'm not a car specialist, but I do know a bit about it. In my case, the problem was with the wiring harness, which was defective. I took my car to a garage, which replaced the wiring harness. It cost me about 95 euros. It could be the same problem with your car, but it's difficult to say without more detailed information about your car. What symptoms does your car show exactly and are there any gauges on the dashboard?

Hey, thanks for your reply. So, my C8 displays a message about engine problems on the dashboard. But it goes away after a few seconds. Then I just hear a clicking sound, but the engine won't start. My last service was at 17706 KM. I hope that helps you. Unfortunately, I can't report any more symptoms. Would be really grateful if someone could help me!

Ah, that brings me right back to my experience. With my Berlingo, the vehicle also made this clicking noise and the engine simply wouldn't start. It turned out to be the starter motor - it was broken. An obvious case for the garage. I decided to have it replaced at the time and it cost me around 150 euros. However, I can't guarantee whether it's the exact same fault, it could just as easily be the ignition switch or the battery. Especially as you say that an engine problem indicator is flashing. My tip would be to have it checked at a garage. Good luck with that!

Hello again! Many thanks for the detailed reply. It sounds like a visit to the garage is probably unavoidable. I'll take your advice to heart and have the starter motor, ignition switch and battery checked thoroughly. Hopefully it's nothing too serious. Your information regarding the possible costs will also help me. Anyway, thank you for the help and the tip. That really helped me. Take care!
