Problem with headlights and warning light on Peugeot 508 Diesel 2016: Possible fault in the headlight leveling system

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

|

Headlamp leveller malfunction

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2016 Peugeot 508 Diesel. My headlights are adjusting strangely and the warning light in the speedometer is illuminated. Could the functional restriction of the headlamp leveling system possibly be to blame? Has anyone ever had a similar problem and how was it solved in the workshop? What experiences have you had? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2014 Peugeot 5008 Diesel. I'm not a garage professional, but I've done a few things myself. So, the repair in my workshop cost 630 euros last time, that was because the headlight control unit was defective (if present). I also had this warning light in the speedometer. Could you please share the exact model and mileage so that we can advise you better? Hope that helps you!

Hey, thanks for your reply! My Peugeot is a 508 diesel from 2016, it has 178521 kilometers behind it so far, the last service was recently. That's really stupid that the headlight control unit can be so expensive. Let's see what the workshop thinks. Many thanks for your help!

Hey, don't stress! Yes, the headlight control unit can sometimes be really annoying. It was the same with my Peugeot 5008. Would recommend you explain to your dealer exactly what's wrong and where exactly you think the problem lies. Fingers crossed that it won't be that expensive for you. Please let us know how it goes. Good luck!

Hey, that's a great idea! I'll go to my dealer free of charge and tell him exactly what the problem is. Maybe he has a cheaper solution that I haven't considered. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for the advice!

Hello everyone, The way you describe it could well be due to the headlight range adjustment. Every headlight has a servomotor which can adjust the light beam upwards or downwards. In cars with halogen headlights, you usually have a setting wheel with which you can adjust this manually. In more modern vehicles with xenon or LED headlights, this is done automatically depending on the vehicle's load. Height sensors are installed on the front and rear axles so that the vehicle knows how heavily loaded it is. These could of course also be defective. I would first check whether the sensors (if you have xenon or LED headlights) are in order. They are often broken or torn off, and of course check the cable. Then I would take a close look at the headlights to see if the plugs are ok or already oxidized. If you don't find anything here, it may well be that the servomotor in the headlight is broken.
