Problem with failed cruise control function in Opel Ampera 2015: experiences and suggested solutions?

Cruise control without function

Fault stored

Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my Opel Ampera built in 2015. The cruise control function has completely failed and an error is stored in the system. Have any of you ever had an experience like this and can give me tips on how to fix it? How did you get it resolved and what did your garage say?

Hi, you remind me of a similar experience I had with my 2013 Opel Astra. Despite my limited car knowledge, I had the same problems back then. It turned out that the engine control unit was faulty. The garage then repaired it. All in all, it cost me 1000 euros. Can you provide more information about your Ampera, such as mileage and other symptoms? That would help me to help you a bit more.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! My Ampera has 67122 km on the clock and apart from the cruise control problem, everything has been running smoothly so far. The last service was only recently and there were no abnormalities. Still, it's strange that it's happening so suddenly, isn't it? Your engine control unit story does worry me a bit though, I hope it's something more harmless.

Hey, no problem! That's exactly the good thing about forums like this, you can exchange help and experiences. With your mileage, I wouldn't spontaneously guess the engine control unit either. In my Astra it was at well over 100,000 km and it had already shown other faults before that. There can be many reasons for a defective cruise control. For example, it could be due to a faulty brake light switch, as the cruise control is connected to the brake light system. Otherwise, it could of course also be due to a fault in the cruise control electronics themselves. It's best to have this checked at your garage. They can read out the error codes and perhaps determine what exactly the problem is. Depending on what it is, you can then decide whether to repair it or not. Hope it's nothing more serious and you'll be back on the road soon!

Hey, thank you so much for the detailed answer! That sounds pretty plausible, and I'll take your advice and take the car to the garage. Hopefully it really is just a minor fault and nothing major. I'll definitely keep you posted. Thanks again for the help, it means a lot to me!
