Problem with electric windows in VW Passat 2003 - malfunction due to incorrect programming of the power windows?

Power windows malfunction

Fault stored

Hello, I have a strange problem with my 2003 VW Passat and maybe one of you has an idea? The electric windows no longer work properly and I have noticed that an error has been stored. Could it be that the programming of the window regulator has gone wrong? Have any of you ever had something like this and can tell me what was done in the workshop to solve the problem? I would appreciate any tips!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2001 VW Golf. I am only a hobby mechanic, so only have some experience. When I raised the issue at my garage, they told me that it was indeed necessary to replace the window motor. It cost me around 355 euros. Have you already read your fault memory and checked what exactly the problem is? Unfortunately, I can't give you any more details without precise information about your car. It would be great if you could share more information about your vehicle. I hope this helps you!

Thank you for your quick reply! I have already read the fault memory and there is definitely a problem with the window motor. To be honest, I was hoping there was a cheaper solution than replacing the motor. But your tip is helpful, I may have to consider that. My Passat with 271430 km is certainly not a new car anymore and no significant problems were reported at the last service. Hope it doesn't get too expensive, I'll keep you posted!

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! If the fault memory confirms that the problem is with the window motor, it may be necessary to replace it. Sure, this can be an expensive affair, but sometimes there is no other choice. However, you could also see if it's worth installing a used motor. I've also had good experiences with this if you get the part from a recycler. That can save a bit of money... Maybe an option for you? Anyway, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it won't be that expensive after all. Stay tuned and let me know how it turns out. Good luck!

Thanks for the other tip! A used motor might actually be a cheaper option, I'll take that into consideration. I'll definitely let you know as soon as I've found a solution. Thanks again for your help!
