Thanks for the answer. My Yaris has now passed the 103758 KM mark. The indicator lights for the engine and the temperature stops are both illuminated. I haven't had an error code read out yet, I should probably do that next. I'll take your tip about the engine control unit to the workshop, thank you! The last service was about 5000 KM ago and everything was still OK.

Hey, don't worry, that sounds pretty similar to what I experienced with my Corolla. I would definitely recommend having the error codes read out, that will certainly provide more clarity. I would definitely have the engine control unit checked at the same time, it certainly can't do any harm. But don't forget the coolant temperature sensor, it could also be the culprit. I had the same problem with the overheating and check engine light until I replaced the sensor. Let me know what you find out, hopefully you can get the problem under control! Good luck!

Thank you very much for the helpful tips! I will definitely have the error codes read out and the engine control unit and coolant temperature sensor checked. Your experience will help me a lot to better understand and narrow down the problem. As soon as I know more, I'll let you know here. Thanks again and have a nice day!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2008 Toyota Corolla. I'm not a car expert, but I do have some experience with car repairs. In my case, the cause was a defective engine control unit. The repair in the workshop cost me 1000 euros. Perhaps you should check whether your Yaris has the same problem. Which engine control lights are flashing exactly and do you have any error codes? Maybe I could help you better if I had more information.
