Hi, thank you very much for your help! Yes, the hands-free system worked without any problems before. It was a standard accessory when I bought the car, but unfortunately I don't know the exact name. My GLS has now run 161203 km and was only recently serviced. Is it possible that something went wrong during the inspection? I think I'll take the advice and go to the garage before I fiddle around myself and break something. 255 euros doesn't sound like much, but if it works again afterwards, it's worth it. Thanks again for your help and best regards.

Hey, you're welcome, that's what the forum is for. Well, it could theoretically be that something went wrong during the inspection, but that would be pure speculation. As a rule, garages are very careful. In the case of my GLE, it was simply wear and tear. What I would definitely recommend is to point out to the garage that the hands-free system has not been working properly since your last visit to the garage. That might help with troubleshooting. Another possibility would be, if you use a cell phone holder in the car, to check whether it might be covering the hands-free system's microphone. I had this once in a previous car and it took me a while to figure it out. The 255 euros isn't exactly cheap, but it's often less frustrating than having to search around for a long time and then having to go to the garage after all. Oh, and if you're planning to replace the microphone yourself, be careful not to damage your electronics. All the best and I hope your problem is solved soon. In any case, keep us up to date! Best regards.

Hi, thanks for all your tips! I don't use a cell phone holder though, so I don't think the microphone is covered. Good point about the last inspection, I hadn't considered that. I'll be sure to bring it up at my next garage visit. With my limited automotive knowledge, I'm definitely not going to take any chances and try to fix anything myself and potentially cause more damage. After all, it's a Mercedes and an expensive one at that. The 255 euros are peanuts in comparison. I'll get back to you when there's news. Until then, have a great time and thanks again for your help. Best regards!

Hi there! I think it could indeed be a faulty microphone. Have you checked if the issue persists with another phone? Also, has your garage mentioned any common issues with the hands-free system in your model?
Before you take your car to the garage, try pairing a different phone with your car's hands-free system. This will help you determine if the problem is with your phone or the car's system. If the problem persists with a different phone, then it's likely an issue with the car's system. If not, the issue might be with your phone.
Hi guys, I had a similar problem with my Mercedes GLE Class (diesel, built in 2012). My knowledge of cars is rather limited, I only do minor work myself from time to time. After initially looking for the fault in the car myself, I went to the workshop. They discovered that the microphone was defective, just as you suspected. The repair cost me 255 euros. It would be helpful if you could give a little more detail about your vehicle. Did the hands-free system work properly before? Do you know the exact name of the hands-free car kit? Best regards and I hope I was able to help you a little.
