Thanks for the quick reply! It's good to know that I'm not the only one with such problems. Do you happen to remember how much the repair cost? And were there any unexpected problems with the car afterwards or has it been running like clockwork ever since?

Hey, you're welcome! So, the repair cost me €1260. It wasn't cheap, but since then the camshaft phasing has been running like clockwork! I didn't have to do anything else after the visit to the workshop. Since then, all the strange noises have disappeared and I've had no further problems with my car. So I would advise you to invest the money and get the car fixed while you still can.

Well then, I'll probably bite the bullet and have the car checked. Your experience doesn't sound cheap, but if it saves me the annoying jerking and mysterious noises, it's worth the money. I just hope my garage does as good a job as yours. Thanks again for your advice! I'll keep you posted on what comes of it.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2004 Toyota Previa. The signs were almost the same - loss of power, jerky engine, increased fuel consumption and metal shavings in the oil. I also recognize the noise from the valve, it felt as if something was wrong with the camshaft adjustment. After a visit to the garage, they confirmed my suspicion, it was a defective camshaft phaser. The repair was a bit complicated because the adjuster is not easy to replace. The bad news? It's a serious problem that needs to be fixed to prevent future damage. The good news? After the repair, my car was running like new again! So, get your car checked as soon as possible and stay optimistic. I hope this helps you!
