Potential Engine Misfire Symptoms in a 2021 Volvo V90 Hybrid

Strong exhaust smell

Engine shuts off by itself

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Check engine light on

Hey folks, I've got my trusty 2021 Volvo V90 Hybrid which has been mostly running sweet to this point but, with 157,797 kms on the clock, it's starting to show me some signs I'm not too comfy with. Engine light's up, sometimes it just switches off by itself and I can definitely feel a power loss. Noticed it's a bit jerky on acceleration too. And can't ignore the potent exhaust smell. I'm no guru but reckon these could be symptoms of misfires? Had a pretty dodgy experience with a mechanic last time (don't ask!) so hoping some of you guys might have come across similar probs? Curious to know what your experience was and how it got sorted. Cheers!

Hey there, Interesting situation you've got. Reminds me vividly of my 2018 Volvo S90. We had a similar experience, just a bit over 150k kms, engine light came on, power loss and this weird stalling thing seemed like a bad sci-fi movie. Even our furry friend was disturbed by the snazzy exhaust smell. Turned out, it was our fuel injection nozzle or injector showing some attitude. Serious issue? You bet! The car wouldn't have run without it. So, take it seriously. It controls fuel supply to your engine, and if it's defective, it can cause misfires, power loss, and the other symptoms you've mentioned. My car spent some time in the garage for the repair. They had to replace the defective nozzle/injector, and it wasn't a walk in the park or a flimsy detail we could've just ignored. Felt like a drag but hey, it’s all sorted now, no more alien behavior, and my car's been running smoothly ever since. Do get it checked ASAP and hope it's all good in the hood, my friend!

Hey there, Thanks for the info, it’s good to know someone else had a similar issue. Your case with the 2018 Volvo S90 does sound strikingly similar! So, it was a faulty fuel injector that messed with your ride then, huh? Sure sounds like a drag that you had to deal with all of that. Can I ask how much it set you back getting that nozzle/injector fixed and replaced? Plus, curious to know if any other problems have cropped up with the car since you got that sorted? Keep it real!

Hey, 'Lil troublemaker, wasn't it? But yeah, the injector issue was indeed a bummer. Pricewise, kiss goodbye to a cool 515 €. Yep, you heard right! Certainly wasn't chump change but trust me, it was worth every cent to get my ride purring again. Since then, my Volvo's been a dream, no more drama. With the misfires and all that jazz sorted out, it feels like my old reliable self again. So far, so good. I'd say if you've got similar symptoms, it's worth checking out. A penny spent now might just save you a fortune in the end! Catch you later,

Hey, Well, that sounds like a fair ol' chunk of change to fix an injector – but hey, if it keeps the chariot running smoothly, sounds like a smart investment. Cheers for sharing that info, plus I'm glad to hear no further problems have popped up for you. Definitely sounds familiar so seems like it's time for me to suck it up and see a mechanic with your insights. Appreciate getting a heads up on what might be coming. Will keep you folks posted on how it all goes. Take care!
