Porsche Cayman Cruise Control Failure: Owners Report Fix

Cruise control without function

Fault stored

Hey everyone, my 2021 Cayman's cruise control system has completely stopped working and throwing a fault code. Has anyone dealt with this issue before? I'd really like to hear about what caused it in your case and how your mechanic fixed it. Any insight on repair costs would be helpful too. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Porsche Boxster last year, so I feel your pain! The cruise control system went completely dead, and it was driving me nuts. Turned out it was just a faulty cable connection near the steering column. Took it to my regular Porsche workshop, and they diagnosed and fixed it in about an hour. The cable had come loose and wasn't making proper contact. Total cost was around 95€ for the repair. Which engine variant do you have in your Cayman? Just want to make sure my experience matches your setup before giving more specific advice. Also, are you getting any specific error messages on the dash?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Cayman's at 77858 KM and just had its service last month. I've got the base 2.0L model. The dash just shows "Cruise Control Fault" with no specific error code. It's interesting that yours was just a loose cable, gives me some hope it might be something simple. Did your Boxster show any warning lights along with the cruise control issue? My Porsche dealer's booked solid for the next two weeks, so I'm trying to figure out if I should wait or find an independent shop.

Hey again! Yeah, my Boxster's situation sounds pretty similar to what you're describing. At 77K km, these things can happen, my issue popped up around 65K km. Actually, my dash showed exactly the same message, just that generic "Cruise Control Fault" without any specific code. No other warning lights came on either, which was kind of a relief. Since you've got the 2.0L like I did, it's probably worth checking out the same area where my problem was. About the dealer vs. independent shop question, honestly, since my fix was pretty straightforward, I'd say a good independent Porsche specialist could handle this just fine. That's actually what I did because my dealer was backed up too. Just make sure they're experienced with Porsches. The shop I used (AutoSport) had handled plenty of similar issues before. Quick tip, before you take it in, you might want to check if the brake light switch is working properly. Sometimes that can trigger the cruise control fault too. I discovered that while researching my own issue, though it wasn't my problem in the end. Let me know how it goes, curious if it turns out to be the same cable issue as mine!

Wow, that's really helpful info! Thanks for all the details about your experience. I actually know a decent independent Porsche shop about 20 minutes from me that a recommended, might give them a call tomorrow. You've got me hopeful it's just something minor like that loose cable connection, especially since our symptoms are so similar. I'll definitely have them check both the cable and that brake light switch you mentioned. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's making me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'll update you once I get it looked at. Fingers crossed it's a quick and relatively painless fix like yours was! Thanks again for all the help!
