Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. The wiring harness issue makes total sense given what my Cayman's doing. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, just curious, have you had any other transmission-related problems pop up since getting it fixed?
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. After seeing the mechanic, the gear selection display issue was completely fixed, it's been working perfectly ever since. I paid 180€ for the wiring harness repair, which honestly wasn't as bad as I initially feared. And nope, haven't had a single transmission problem since then! The car's been running like a dream, smooth shifting, no weird noises, nothing. Just goes to show how important it is to get these things sorted quickly by someone who knows what they're doing with Porsches. Best money I've spent on the Boxster, to be honest. The transmission issues can be scary, but sometimes it's just something relatively straightforward like the wiring harness. I'm really glad I could help with your Cayman situation, these cars are pretty similar when it comes to transmission setups, so hopefully your fix will be just as straightforward as mine was. Keep us posted on how it goes!
Thanks so much! You've really put my mind at ease. I took my Cayman to a certified Porsche specialist yesterday, and guess what? You were spot on! It was indeed the wiring harness causing all the trouble. The mechanic was super professional and fixed everything up in about two days. The total cost came to around 200€, which was actually better than I expected, especially for a Porsche repair! The transmission's now shifting like butter, no more grinding or whining sounds, and the gear display is working perfectly. What a relief! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me make the right decision instead of putting it off and potentially causing more damage. The mechanic even showed me the old wiring harness and explained everything. Amazing how such a small part can cause so much worry! Thanks again for all your help. It's great to have the Cayman running smoothly again!
Hey! I had similar issues with my 2015 Porsche Boxster last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, particularly that whining noise and incorrect gear display. Turned out to be a faulty wiring harness in the transmission control module. In my case, the wiring harness had deteriorated due to heat exposure, causing intermittent connection issues. It was pretty serious since it could've led to complete transmission failure if left unchecked. When I brought it in, they found several damaged wires affecting the sensor readings and gear control unit. The repair involved replacing the entire transmission wiring harness and reprogramming the control module. It wasn't a quick fix, took about three days in the shop, but it solved all the issues. The transmission's been shifting perfectly since then, no more weird noises or display problems. Definitely get it checked out soon, these symptoms shouldn't be ignored on a Porsche. Make sure you find a certified Porsche specialist: the transmission wiring setup is quite specific to these models.
