Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. I've been putting off getting mine fixed because of the potential costs, but it sounds like I should just bite the bullet. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up? My Boxster's been fantastic otherwise, but these electronic issues are definitely annoying. Would love to know what to expect cost-wise before I take it in. Thanks!
Hey again! Yeah, I totally get your concern about the costs, I actually just got mine fixed last week! The damage came to 155€, which honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The mechanic found exactly what I suspected, it was indeed that pesky cable connection causing all the drama with the PCM system. I'm actually really happy to report that since the repair, everything's been working perfectly! The Navigation system image data invalid error that was driving me nuts is completely gone now. The audio's crystal clear, and the nav system is back to being spot-on reliable. Haven't had a single electrical gremlin pop up since the fix. Your Boxster should be a similar repair job to my Cayman since they share a lot of the same components. For what it's worth, I'd say don't put it off like I initially did, these things can sometimes get worse if left too long, and 155€ is way better than potentially having to replace the entire unit later on. Let me know how it goes when you get yours sorted!
Hey there! Just wanted to update you on my Boxster situation, I finally took your advice and got it checked out! Found this highly-rated Porsche specialist about 30 minutes from my place. Turns out, you were spot on about the cable issue. The mechanic showed me where the connection had worn down, pretty much identical to what you described with your Cayman. The total bill came to 180€, which included them doing a quick diagnostic check of the entire electrical system just to be safe. Slightly more than what you paid, but still way less than what I was dreading! The whole thing took about two hours, and they even cleaned up the console while they were at it. Everything's working perfectly now, nav system, audio, the whole lot. Such a relief! Thanks again for sharing your experience, really helped me make the decision to get it sorted instead of putting it off even longer. Definitely learned my lesson about not waiting too long when these electronic issues pop up. Cheers for the help!
Hi there, I had a similar issue with my 2012 Porsche Cayman last winter. The nav and audio system suddenly died on me. Turned out it was a faulty cable connection between the head unit and the main system. The cable had worn out over time and was causing intermittent connection issues. I initially thought it was a software problem too, but my independent Porsche specialist diagnosed it as a hardware issue. They had to remove the center console to access and replace the damaged cable harness. It wasn't a major repair, but it required specific knowledge of Porsche's PCM system. If you're not comfortable with the dealer, I'd recommend finding a certified Porsche specialist. They often have the same diagnostic tools and expertise but tend to be more transparent about the work needed. Hope this helps!
