Porsche 997 Warning Lights: Airbag & Active Hood Issues?

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

|

Airbag warning light

Hey everyone, my 2012 Porsche 997 is showing warning lights in the speedometer cluster along with an airbag warning. I suspect it might be related to an active hood malfunction. Has anyone dealt with similar warning combinations on their 997? Would love to know what the diagnosis was and how your mechanic fixed it. Looking for some real-world experiences before I take it to the shop. Thanks!

Hey there! I have some experience working on Porsches. I actually had a similar issue with my 2014 Porsche 911, and my Cayman S before that. Those warning lights can be nerve-wracking! In my case, it turned out to be a faulty acceleration sensor that was triggering multiple warnings. I took it to my trusted indie Porsche specialist who diagnosed and fixed it, cost me around 315€ including parts and labor. Before I share more specifics, could you tell me if you're getting any error codes? Also, does the warning come up immediately when starting the car or after driving for a while? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had. Don't ignore these warnings though, it's best to get them checked out ASAP, especially since they're related to safety systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My last service was about 3 months ago at 83146 KM, and yeah, the warning lights pop up right after starting the car. Haven't pulled any error codes yet, but definitely planning to get it checked soon. After reading your post, I'm wondering if it could be the same sensor issue. Did your warning lights stay on constantly or did they flicker at all? Mine seem to be consistently lit once they appear.

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. Yes, in my case, the warning lights were consistently on too, just like yours, appearing right after starting the car. They weren't flickering at all, which actually helped my mechanic narrow down the issue to that acceleration sensor I mentioned. Since your mileage is pretty similar to what mine was when I had the problem (I was around 85,000 km), it could very well be the same sensor issue. Mine was a 2014 911, and these sensors tend to start acting up around this mileage range. Just to share a bit more from my experience, I initially thought it might be more serious (like an active hood malfunction too!), but it turned out to be much simpler. The constant nature of the warning lights, rather than intermittent flickering, is actually a pretty good indicator that it's sensor-related. Quick tip though, if you're heading to get it checked, try to document when exactly the lights come on and if there's any pattern to it. My mechanic found that info super helpful for the diagnosis. Let me know how it goes, always interested to hear if it's the same issue I dealt with!

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! It's really reassuring to hear that your similar issue turned out to be something relatively straightforward. I'll definitely make note of the warning light patterns like you suggested before taking it in. The fact that our mileage is so close and the symptoms are nearly identical makes me feel a lot better about this, was worried it might be something major! I've got an appointment scheduled with my local Porsche specialist for next week, so I'll make sure to ask them specifically about the acceleration sensor. If it turns out to be the same issue, that repair cost doesn't sound too bad at all. I'll update the forum once I get it sorted out, might help someone else down the line with similar symptoms. Thanks again for sharing your experience, really helped put my mind at ease!

Let our mechanics help you!
